Real Sociedad is showing interest in Donny van de Beek and is reportedly negotiating a deal with Manchester United, as per Noticias de Gipuzkoa via Daily Mail.

United’s midfielder, Donny Van de Beek, is reportedly seeking a fresh start after struggling to impress at Old Trafford since his £40 million move from Ajax Amsterdam in 2020. The Dutch player was considered a rising star during his time in the Eredivisie, but his performance has failed to meet expectations with the English giants. And he has now been offered a way out, with reports from Spain claiming that Sociedad are in talks with United and want to sign Van de Beek on a loan deal that will include an £8m buyout clause.

Three challenging seasons have passed for Van de Beek at Manchester United, with a tally of just two goals and two assists in his 60 appearances for the club. The 2022/23 season saw the Dutchman feature in only 10 matches, out of which he was in the starting line-up merely four times. His season was cut short by a severe knee injury in January.

It has been reported that Van de Beek and United are mutually considering a separation. The specifics of his departure, whether a permanent transfer or a loan, are yet to be decided. As the Red Devils proceed with their transfer plans, which include the recent agreement with Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund and the expected acquisition of Sofyan Amrabat, they’re also open to selling key players such as Brazilian midfielder Fred and Van de Beek to fund the purchase of Amrabat.

United bolstered their midfield last summer by bringing in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. This window, they’ve added Chelsea’s Mason Mount to their squad. With Erik ten Hag also having the likes of Bruno Fernandes at his disposal, and Scott McTominay also being favored over Van de Beek, it seems the Dutch midfielder’s spot is becoming more precarious, especially with Kobbie Mainoo set to vie for a place in the midfield.

Considering the level of competition for playing time at Old Trafford, it may well be in Van de Beek’s best interest to explore other opportunities where he could revive his career with regular appearances.
