According to recent revelations from The Athletic, Manchester United’s coaching staff, including Erik ten Hag, have been notably impressed by Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.
The reports also suggest that the player himself was interested in a move to the Red Devils.
Interestingly, Palhinha still remains at Fulham, even after completing a medical and a photo shoot with Bayern Munich’s kit.
The £58m deal fell through at the last minute as Fulham couldn’t secure a suitable replacement in time.
Players like Scott McTominay and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were not willing to join Fulham as part of any deal.
It is worth mentioning that Manchester United’s interest in Sofyan Amrabat might have influenced their decision to not engage in a swap deal involving McTominay, who would also have required some persuading to switch places with Palhinha.
Given that Casemiro and Amrabat seem to have the midfield roles secured, it appears unlikely that Manchester United will make a move for Fulham’s Palhinha in the foreseeable future.
