Upon closing a deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount, estimated at approximately £60m, Manchester United is ready to expedite the sale of one of their key midfielders. The anticipated departure is expected to further bolster the club’s summer transfer funds.

The announcement of Mount’s acquisition will mark a shift in United’s transfer focus, with manager Erik ten Hag directing his attention to the surplus players at the club.

As part of a strategic move, United has previously signaled their readiness to part ways with 13 players this summer, which included Brazilian midfielder Fred.

The Manchester Evening News reports that once Mount’s transfer is officially completed, United’s priority will be to find a new home for Fred.

The Brazilian midfielder was purchased for a hefty £52m back in 2018 and has made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils.

Fred’s current contract, which lasts until summer 2024, means that this transfer window might be the ideal opportunity for the club to recoup some of their initial investment.

Fulham have emerged as potential suitors for the 30-year-old, although there’s a gap between their valuation and United’s £20m asking price.

The sales aren’t expected to stop at Fred, however, with Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek also reportedly on the club’s list of players to be offloaded.
