Manchester United have been heavily linked with Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, so much so that it was reported The Red Devils were willing to use disgraced English forward Mason Greenwood as makeweight for the Bremer deal on account of Juve being interested in Greenwood.

A report by La Gazzetta dello Sport last week revealed that United were aware of this interest and, accordingly, “Greenwood could be included in the deal for Bremer, as a potential makeweight to lower Juventus’ asking price,” the report stated.

Greenwood’s future is one of the major issues Sir Jim and INEOS will have to resolve come the summer, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given an update on this, in particular the Juventus links.

Speaking on The United Stand, Romano refuted these links firmly, stating he was not convinced of Juve’s interest in the young forward.

The Italian journalist said, “I don’t think Juventus will go for Mason Greenwood.”

“From what I hear, they have different options in those positions. It is not a priority for them.” he concluded.

He also went on to confirm that there was no official contact between The Old Lady and Greenwood, putting plenty of doubt on last week’s reports of Juve’s interest.

“At the moment, I am not aware of any contact between Juventus and Greenwood,” he stated on this.

It now seems as if Man United will be going through with trying to sign Bremer without any makeweight, at least not in the form of Mason Greenwood.

Romano also put it clear that United’s interest in Bremer was in no way connected to Greenwood, so United may have to pay most of or all of the €60m-€70m that is Bremer’s release clause that will be active this summer.

“Man United’s interest in Gleison Bremer is not linked to Greenwood.” Romano concluded.
