Manchester United has intensified the competition for Giorgio Scalvini, the promising Atalanta defender, thereby complicating Inter Milan’s pursuit, according to a report from Tuttosport earlier this week.

Scalvini, a product of Atalanta’s youth academy, made an impression with his senior team debut in October 2021. Since the commencement of the previous season, he has been a consistent feature in the team, prompting interest from several clubs, both within Italy and internationally.

Among the interested parties, United is now reported by Tutto Atalanta to have made a significant move in the race for the 19-year-old’s services. The Italian publication indicates an intensifying battle that has recently become more intriguing due to United’s involvement.

The interest from the Premier League club is also shared by Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus, who are vying with Inter for the central defender.

Despite the pursuits from these Italian clubs, it is suggested that Atalanta might prefer to do business with Manchester United. The speculation is that a transfer could be agreed upon for a sum in the region of €50 million.

This possibility is hinted to be rooted in the ‘excellent’ rapport between Atalanta and Manchester United, highlighted by the Premier League club’s acquisition of Rasmus Højlund from the Bergamo club in the previous transfer window. To date, Scalvini has added a goal to his tally from 13 outings this season.
