Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, once hailed as a rising star, is now reportedly on Bayern Munich’s radar for a potential January transfer, as per Fichajes.
The England international, who left Manchester City’s academy to make a name for himself in the Bundesliga, could see a return to Germany if the Red Devils decide to part ways with him in the upcoming winter window.
Initially considered a generational talent, Sancho impressed during his stint at Borussia Dortmund, contributing to goals at an exceptional rate. United had their eyes on him since 2018 and finally secured the winger in July 2021, paying a hefty €85 million.
Fast-forward two years, and the player finds himself in a drastically different situation, reduced to a mere shadow of his former self.
Sancho’s struggles at Old Trafford were evident last season when he was sidelined for several months.
Manager Erik ten Hag even sent him to the Netherlands for rehab. Upon his return, his performances were far from convincing.
This season, he has barely made appearances, being left out of the squad entirely for the recent game against Arsenal. When questioned about the omission, Ten Hag stated that Sancho had not trained well.
Sancho was quick to challenge this, taking to Twitter to argue that he was being made a “scapegoat,” putting him in an uncomfortable position at the club.
With Manchester United supporting their manager in this dispute, it appears unlikely Sancho will see much action this season.
Although there have been murmurs of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, Fichajes indicates that Sancho has no plans to leave the club right now.
However, a winter move could be in the cards, and Bayern Munich is positioning itself as a primary contender.
The Bundesliga champions had been in touch with Sancho’s camp throughout the summer and are said to be confident that the winger can rediscover his best form in Germany.
No official discussions have been initiated yet, but it is anticipated that Bayern will approach Manchester United to discuss a potential transfer as soon as the winter window opens.
Currently, Sancho’s market value stands at a diminished €50 million, according to Fichajes.
It remains to be seen how this situation evolves and what amount Bayern Munich may be willing to invest in the underperforming star.
