The summer transfer window has already seen a couple of academy stars in the shape of Zidane Iqbal and Ethan Laird leave Manchester United on a permanent basis.

Manager Erik Ten Hag was happy to green light their departures as the club focused their energies on other players within the setup. And now another youngster is set to leave the club.

That’s because Charlie Savage is poised to join Reading Football Club in the Championship on a permanent transfer, according to the Daily Mail.

Savage, the son of former Utd academy player and Leicester City star Robbie Savage, played for the senior side in a recent 2-0 pre-season friendly win against Leeds United in Norway. In fact, the youngster was made captain for the second half when a youthful Utd played their rivals.

However, that hasn’t changed their position on the player as it seems that an exit is due any time now.

20 year old Savage made his one and only competitive appearance for the senior side in a UEFA Champions League game against Young Boys in 2021 and spent part of last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers, featuring 15 times for the Green Devils.

According to the paper, United will include an agreement to match any bid to buy him back as well as a sell-on clause – similar to the deals they’ve put in place for Iqbal and Laird.
