Amidst growing speculation around the ownership of Manchester United, football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic has voiced his perspective on the matter. The iconic striker believes United fanbase might be misguided in their criticism of the Glazer family.
In the latter part of 2022, the Glazers made it known that Manchester United was on the market due to increasing pressure from supporters. Leading the potential buyers list are Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamal Al Thani, with several investment groups also showing interest.
Latest reports suggest that Ratcliffe, after previously offering to purchase a 69% stake, is considering adjusting his proposition. He is now rumored to be readying a sixth bid that would still allow the Glazers to retain a minority stake in the club.
The United faithful’s sentiments are clear: a significant number want the Glazer era to come to an end. However, Ibrahimovic, who hung up his boots in June, challenges this viewpoint. The Swedish sensation highlighted the extensive financial contributions the Glazers have made since their 2005 takeover.
Speaking on ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’, Ibrahimovic remarked, “I think now in Man Utd, I don’t know, there are some kind of demonstrations about the owners to sell it and that, but just a reminder, the owners are investing.”
He continued, “It is not like they are not investing because they brought in many players for a high amount of money. So I think it’s a little bit wrong saying that they are not doing what the fans expect them to do, then I don’t know what the real reason is behind everything.”
