Sheffield United’s injury list has swelled alarmingly, now numbering FOURTEEN players as they gear up to face Manchester United. The recent blow? Goalkeeper Adam Davies, who was hastily returned from the Wales camp for an urgent medical assessment, complicating team dynamics.

To add to the club’s conundrum, another goalkeeper, Jordan Amissah, remains sidelined. This predicament might propel Sheffield to enlist Marcus Dewhurst as an emergency goalkeeper when they face Erik ten Hag’s formidable squad.

Club captain, John Egan, suffered a worrisome landing injury at West Ham, exacerbating Sheffield’s injury concerns. The skipper’s departure from the pitch, supported by medical staff and subsequently seen with crutches, raised eyebrows regarding his return.

Similarly, Tom Davies, who had started showing promise, was hit by a muscle injury in training, sidelining him for an extended period. Alongside Davies, George Baldock’s calf injury remains a point of concern, while Chris Basham, following his distressing incident at Fulham, has undergone multiple surgeries, casting doubt over his return this season.

As the injury list lengthens, players like Ismaila Coulibaly, hindered by a recurring knee problem, and Will Osula, nursing an injury from international duty, are eager to return. Ben Osborn, having sustained a groin injury against Manchester City, is on the mend, with Max Lowe recovering from a unique preseason ankle ligament injury.

Midfield dynamo John Fleck had a brief stint with the U21s, while Rhian Brewster showcased his scoring skills during his 45-minute U21 appearance, signaling his upcoming return. Rhys Norrington-Davies, grappling with a severe hamstring injury, has the club’s medical team on their toes, ensuring no further complications.

Amid these setbacks, Daniel Jebbison’s season remains marred by injuries and illness, casting shadows over his future at Sheffield United, especially with his contract nearing its end.

The club now stares at challenging times ahead, with Paul Heckingbottom ruminating over the series of injuries, leaving fans and analysts pondering the squad’s resilience in the face of such adversities.
