Manchester United are set to face off against Man City, with the latter leading by six points as the season progresses.
Following a 1-0 victory against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night, the Reds are aiming to extend their winning streak to four consecutive matches. Meanwhile, City secured a 3-1 win over Young Boys on Wednesday.
Despite their recent wins, Manchester United supporters remain concerned about the team’s performance leading up to the derby.
Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, provided updates on his squad when pressed by reporters. He confirmed Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s participation in training but was unable to give a clear update on Casemiro’s fitness.
“Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] was training today,” Ten Hag stated according to the Manchester Evening News. “Case is a race against the clock, not 100%.”
The potential return of Wan-Bissaka to the lineup is promising, possibly even in time for the weekend’s game, but the ambiguity surrounding Casemiro’s condition is less than ideal. Casemiro has had a shaky season thus far, but his presence is crucial for the derby, as Manchester United is lacking in alternatives for their main defensive midfielder.
City, in contrast, will have Rodri available for selection. Wan-Bissaka might not be ready to start in the derby, making it likely that Diogo Dalot will play as right-back.
