Manchester United are focusing on bringing in more young talent to the squad this summer in order to rejuvenate the first team.

The new focus on youth stars comes from the top, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the sporting team rumoured to have implemented a policy of focusing on players under the age of 25 who have heaps of untapped potential.

The United squad have benefitted from the inclusion of youngster recently, with academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho breaking into the first squad this season, ultimately winning the FA Cup for the Red Devils being the two goal scorers in United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City to lift the trophy, granting both midfielders nominations into this year’s Golden Boy award.

Now, hoping to follow in their footsteps, another exciting prospect from the United academy has signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford.

Winger Ethan Williams has officially put pen to pap and signed for the Red Devils with his first professional contract after a tremendous spell in the youth academy.

After joining United from Rochdale Under-18s in 2019 at the age of 14, Williams has risen through the ranks, from the youth team to the Under-18s and Under-21s, racking up an impressive record of goal contributions.

For the Under-18s, Williams has been a vital left winger, making 39 appearances across all competitions with 16 goals and 14 assists which supported the team to beat Chelsea Under-18s in the U18 Premier League final stage with a 2-1 victory in which he scored and set up the other goal.

Playing in the Premier League reserve league, Williams has continued his run of form with six goals and three assists in 19 matches, also showing off his versatility by playing across both wings and in left-back.

With a record like his already and the versatility he’s demonstrated on the pitch, Williams will surely be hoping to use the pre-season as a way of showing what he can do to make waves in the senior squad.
