The 27-year-old shot-stopper finds himself in the company of the world’s top keepers as he vies for this award.

Onana’s inclusion on the five-man shortlist is a testament to his outstanding performances during the previous season, where he was a pivotal figure in Inter Milan’s success.

Under his guardianship, Inter clinched the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia titles, and also ventured to the Champions League final.

During his tenure at Inter Milan, Onana showcased his goalkeeping prowess by featuring in a remarkable 41 matches across all competitions, achieving a commendable 19 clean sheets along the way.

Such a record certainly cements his reputation as a top-class goalkeeper.

Notably, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lauded Onana’s unique skills, particularly his exceptional ability to build up play from the back, an attribute highly valued in the modern game.

Onana’s journey to the FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper nomination is also marked by his recent transfer to Manchester United.

In a high-profile £47.2 million deal, he reunited with coach Erik ten Hag, with whom he had previously worked at Ajax. This reunion undoubtedly added an extra layer of excitement to his arrival at Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper wasted no time in making a positive impression at his new club, joining the United squad during pre-season in the United States.

His performances on the field, characterised by excellent distribution and shot-stopping abilities, immediately caught the eye of both fans and pundits alike.

While Onana has so far managed only one clean sheet in his four starts for Manchester United, he has consistently made remarkable saves and demonstrated his knack for playing the ball out from the back.
