Daley Blind backs Lisandro Martinez amid a barrage of criticism and believes that he has the ability to turn a corner with the quality he possesses.

It has not been the best of starts defensively for Martinez, who has been part of a leaky backline that has already conceded 14 goals in 7 games. To further complicate matters, he has been battling with a niggling injury that saw him miss the Burnley game.

However, the Argentine has had a positive impact on the fortune of the Red Devils as a whole. His tenacity and aggression have already made him a cult favorite among fans, despite the early skepticism. He was a key reason for Manchester United’s revival last season which saw them win the Carabao Cup and qualify for this season’s Champions League.

Speaking to the Athletic, Blind said, “The typical English way of football isn’t seen in the Premier League anymore. So many managers from abroad have brought their different types of football to the table. Matches are now very tactical and about being in the right position.

“For example, Lisandro Martinez, he has this intelligence but also an aggression – he’s strong. People like to talk about his height when something goes wrong but he is so good on and off the ball that his height is not an issue.

“Martinez is a great player. He’s clever enough to stand his ground in the Premier League. It was the same for me.”

Despite a slow start to the season, Martinez possesses enough quality to turn things around. His form and availability will be crucial to the Red Devils as they look to build momentum after two straight wins and clean sheets.

Manchester United face Crystal Palace on Saturday in the Premier League.
