English top flight clubs will from next season experience a new approach to offsides decisions as they unanimously voted for semi-automatic offsides, a move that is expected to reduce VAR decisions by 30 seconds.

This is as reported by the BBC and it is expected to make offside calls more efficient and more accurate.

The system is already in use in UEFA Club competitions and it can be attested to how fast VAR decisions are made in matches .

By contrast, lines have to be drawn in the Premier League and manually analysed which usually means decisions sometimes take close to 5 minutes.

A Premier League spokesman said: ‘The technology will provide quicker and consistent placement of the virtual offside line, based on optical player tracking, and will produce high-quality broadcast graphics to ensure an enhanced in-stadium and broadcast experience for supporters.’
