Manchester United have drawn 1-1 vs Athletic Club in their final match of preseason 2023. A fairly dull game was given a positive ending for fans of the Red Devils when Facundo Pellistri tucked home a tidy finish right at the end, but the performance was not a particularly brilliant one for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Player ratings as Manchester United end their preseason campaign

Tom Heaton – 6.0

Dealt with everything he needed to bar the goal, which he almost saved.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5

A decent performance from Wan-Bissaka. Nothing special, but at least he didn’t make any errors leading to goals.

Harry Maguire – 5.0

A largely insecure performance including a poor giveaway for Athletic Club’s goal, although he certainly grew into the game. Nice cushioned header to assist Pellistri for the equalizer, too.

Victor Lindelof – 6.5

Good performance

Alvaro Fernandez – 7.0

Defensively a little shaky, but very promising going forwards, showing what he has to offer in the future.

Dan Gore – 6.5

Provided an anchoring role in the midfield well, as Kobbie Mainoo did before his injury.

Christian Eriksen – 7.0

Creative but still not looking as good as before his injury last season.

Facundo Pellistri – 8.5

Another bright performance from Pellistri. Really energetic and disruptive of Athletic Club. Great finish for the equalizer, too.

Donny van de Beek – 6.0

Had some good moments but didn’t look like a performance that was going to save his United career.

Omari Forson – 6.0

Not overly threatening but again had some moments.

Jadon Sancho – 7.0

Promising first half with some great creativity and dribbling. Should’ve scored, too.

Johnny Evans – 6.0

A little worse than Lindelof

Hannibal Mejbri – 7.0

Brought a lot of energy to the game, caused an opposition player to get sent off as well.

Joe Hugill – 5.5

Didn’t do an awful lot in his half-hour on the pitch.

Noam Emeran – N/A

No notable contribution in either a positive or negative way.
