The UEFA Champions League group stage draw has officially been released!
And for the 2023/24 tournament, we’ll see Manchester United go against Bayern Munich, Copenhagen, and Galatasaray in Group A.
But how do we think the Red Devils will do against this selection? Let’s have a look at some of their past performances with their future competitors on the pitch.
Bayern Munich
United have played a total of 11 UCL games against Bayern in the past between 1998 and 2014. Out of all of them, United have won two games, lost four, and drawn in five. While United were victorious in the 99′ final, these aren’t the best statistics out there, especially since the last game in April 2014 was a 3-1 loss.
However, this was almost a decade ago, so we can hope that Ten Hag has whipped his team into shape enough to come out on top against Bayern.
Copenhagen
Unlike Bayern, United have a better record when playing against Copenhagen in the past, however, they haven’t come head-to-head as much. The Red Devils have played against the Belgium club a total of three times, twice in the UCL and once in the UEL.
Back in October 2006, Manchester United had a 3-0 victory in the UCL, but this was followed by a 1-0 loss a couple of weeks later in the same league. But we did see another win back in August 2020, which gives United a slight advantage for the 2023/34 league.
Galatasaray
Manchester United have seen Galatasaray on the UCL pitch a total of six times in the past between 1993 and 2012. Luckily, United have had more wins than losses, as they have come out on top twice, drawn in three of the games, and only lost once.
In December 1994, the Red Devils had a significant 4-0 victory against Galatasaray. However, this was almost two decades ago, so there could be big differences this year.
So, what do you think? Do you think United can come out on top in this group? Or will a club like Bayern manage to push past them? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
